How to Book
We're based in Redondo Beach, about 5 miles from Palos Verdes Estates, and we drive out for repairs, spring jobs, and opener work on this side of the hill. Call and tell us the door's size, whether it's wood or steel, and what it's doing (or not doing) - a stuck door, a spring that let go, an opener that won't respond. Most homes here date to around 1963, so if you know the door hasn't been touched since the house was built, say so; it changes what we bring on the truck. We don't run a branch office in Palos Verdes Estates itself, so booking is by phone, not walk-in. Because the median household income here runs well above the rest of the area we cover, we also see more custom wood doors than aluminum stock doors - tell us up front if yours looks hand-built, since that affects what we quote and what we can source same-visit versus special order.{br}This isn't a dispatch-center operation promising a window down to the minute. We give you a realistic arrival range based on where we're coming from and what's ahead of you that day.
Can You Do This Yourself
A broken torsion spring on a double door is not a DIY repair - the spring is under enough tension to break bones, and that's true whether the door is steel or a heavier solid-wood panel like a lot of what's on the ground in Palos Verdes Estates. Wood doors built around 1963 often carry more weight than a modern steel door of the same size, which means more tension on the springs holding it up and less margin for error if you guess the wrong size replacement. Lubricating hinges, tightening loose hardware, and clearing track debris are fine to do yourself. Swapping springs, cables, or anything holding the door up under load isn't, especially on an original wood door where the mounting hardware may not match anything sold today. If the door is original to the house, there's a real chance the track or drum hardware is non-standard too - that's a reason to call before you start, not after something slips.
Parts We Carry
We stock the springs, cables, rollers, and hinges that fit most doors from the 1960s and 70s stock common across this part of the service area, which covers a lot of what's installed in Palos Verdes Estates. What we don't carry on the truck is a replacement wood panel sized to a 1963 custom opening - that's special-order, and if your door is hand-built or non-standard width, expect us to measure on the first visit and come back with the part rather than finish same-day. Mild coastal temperatures here mean we're not fighting the rust and seal failure you'd see in a harsher climate, so a lot of what fails on these older doors is the hardware - springs, bearings, cable fraying from age - rather than the panel itself. Openers are a simpler story: if yours has failed, we carry current units that fit onto most existing track setups without replacing the whole door.
